Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son told media that this was Mr. Phuc’s first trip to Western Europe as Vietnam’s Prime Minister.

According to Son, the main aim of Mr. Phuc’s trip was to foster economic, trade, and investment ties, adding that a number of states in Germany and cities in the Netherlands showed an interest in cooperating with Vietnamese localities.

“Germany is a big partner of Vietnam in Europe with many advantages and much potential in science and technology. In response to Prime Minister Phuc’s request for help in technology and governance, several German states pledged to encourage their firms and groups to invest or partner with Vietnam in those fields and to sign cooperative agreements with Vietnamese businesses,” said Son, adding “While visiting the Netherlands, Mr. Phuc conducted a fact finding tour of the Dutch response to climate change and sea level rise. Projects in natural disaster response and mitigation and dyke construction are what the Netherlands will offer Vietnam in the near future.”

At the economic forums in Germany and the Netherlands, many cooperation deals were signed.

Regarding PM Phuc’s attendance of the G20 Summit as the host of APEC 2017, Deputy Minister Son said delegations to the G20 Summit praised Vietnam’s growing status in the international arena and welcomed Vietnam’s contributions to the summit’s meetings.
