PM receives foreign leaders on sideline of WEF ASEAN

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday in Hanoi on the sidelines of the 2018 World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN).

Both leaders reiterated their determination to raise bilateral trade to 10 billion USD by 2020. They pledged proper mechanisms to address businesses’ problems and create favorable business environment. Both sides agreed to push negotiations on the delineation of their exclusive economic zones on the basis of international law and the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, so as to open opportunities for maritime cooperation. The Vietnamese and Indonesian leaders pledged to work closely with each other to fight illegal fishing and settle fishermen’s problems in the spirit of humanity and the two countries’ Strategic Partnership.

On the same day, PM Phuc met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The two Prime Ministers laid stress on the close relations between the two countries, saying that regular meetings of leaders from both sides have contributed to developing the strategic partnership in a stable, practical and effective manner.

They agreed to continue support for the business communities of both sides to expand investment and business in each other’s country, build transparent and stable policy frame, as well as timely remove obstacles for businesses, with the goal of raising two-way trade and investments. They were unanimous in accelerating trade liberalization and regional economic linkages, and coordinating with other countries to early complete the negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
