President Trump discusses trade practices with Huawei CEOs

(VOVWORLD) - President Donald Trump met with CEOs from Google, Broadcom and other technology companies on Monday to discuss trade practices and national security issues.

The White House said in a press release that the meeting was “constructive,” adding that the CEOs strongly supported President Trump’s policies, including national security limitations in purchasing US equipment and selling to Huawei. The executives requested “timely licensing decisions” from the Department of Commerce regarding Huawei, and the President agreed, according to the White House. Huawei has a tense relationship with the U.S. government after Washington banned a wide range of sales to the Chinese company earlier this year, citing national security concerns. However, it later softened these measures.

In related news, Britain said Monday it was "not yet in a position" to decide what level of involvement China's Huawei should have in the UK's 5G next-generation telecoms network. Digital Secretary Jeremy Wright told parliament that London was still seeking clarity on the implications of US action against the Chinese telecoms giant, adding it would be "wrong to make specific decisions" beforehand.
