President Trump proposes new plan to reopen government

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump on Saturday proposed limited legal protections for undocumented immigrants in exchange for money to build his proposed border wall, his latest efforts to stop the government shutdown which drags into its 5th week.

The president backed legislation to give more than 700,000 immigrants, known as “Dreamers,” temporary legal status and work authorization for three years if their protection gets revoked. He also supported a temporary protected status (TPS) for immigrants from some Latin American and African nations, in exchange for building the 5.7 billion-USD wall on the US-Mexico border. Trump said the proposal includes 800 million USD in urgent humanitarian assistance, 805 million USD for drug detection technology, and the deployment of 2,750 more border patrol agents and law enforcement officials.
