(VOVworld) - Vietnam and Azerbaijan have agreed to raise two way trade turnover to 1 billion USD from the current 400 million. During talks between Presidents Truong Tan Sang and Ilham Aliev in Baku on Thursday, both said that oil and gas cooperation has been a long term and strategic priority.

They will promote bilateral cooperation in light industry, property, labor and transport. Specific measures have been discussed to promote tourism and educational cooperation, including a direct air route. President Sang informed his counterpart about recent events in the East Sea, confirming the stance shared by ASEAN and Vietnam on settling maritime disputes by peaceful means in conformity to international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.
President Aliev supported Vietnam’s view on peaceful settlement of any conflict in line with international law and the UN Charter. President Sang called for Azerbaijan’s support for Vietnam’s bid for a seat at the UN Economic and Social Council for the 2016-2018 tenure and the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure. Both witnessed the signing of cooperative agreement on customs, air transport, agriculture, oil, and gas.
