President Truong Tan Sang meets Norwegian Prime Minister Erena Solberg

(VOVworld)- Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg met on the sidelines of the United Nations Summit in New York on Friday to discuss bilateral cooperation in various areas.

President Sang said Vietnam treasured its friendship and cooperation with Norway. Prime Minister Erena Solberg expressed her delight at the development of bilateral ties. Sang asked Norway to facilitate Norwegian enterprises to invest in Vietnam, especially in maritime, shipbuilding, hydro power, recycled energy, oil and gas and aquaculture. He urged Norway to speed up the ratification of the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA) and early recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status.In addition, they agreed to continue maintaining regular exchange visits, particularly between businesses and municipalities and closely coordinate at multilateral forums in the future. Sang expressed his hope that Norway would support Vietnam’s membership for the Non-Membership at the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. PM Solberg applauded Vietnam’s achievements in fulfilling its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), given that with these achievements, Vietnam deserves to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. They also reached consensus on strengthening cooperation in the implementation of sustainable development goals post-2015.
