Prime Minister attends ASEAN+3 Summit

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday attended the ASEAN+3 Summit involving leaders of ASEAN countries and China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

At the meeting, the leaders highlighted ASEAN+3 cooperation and its contributions to peace, security, and prosperity in the region. In his address, Prime Minister Phuc praised positive developments on the Korean peninsula pointing out however that many challenges remain, including trade conflicts, protectionism, non-traditional security problems, epidemics, environmental pollution, and natural disasters. He introduced a number of initiatives to promote  ASEAN+3 cooperation including building a warning system for regional macro-economic risks, improving the response capacity of regional economies, and strengthening cooperation in the early warning systems of natural disasters.

At the end of the summit, the leaders adopted ASEAN+3 Leaders’ Declaration on cooperation in combating antimicrobial resistance.
