Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc receives US Secretary of Agriculture
(VOVworld)- On Monday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack. At the reception, the Prime Minister said he hoped the US would further cooperate with Vietnam in agricultural production and climate change adaptation. Phuc said the Vietnamese government had submitted the National Assembly the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement for approval. He called on the US to support Vietnam in capacity building, technology, food quarantine and cleaner production. He asked the US administration to license the imports of Vietnamese mangos and star apples and review its policy to support Vietnam’s export of tra and basa fish to the US market.
US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack said the US was ready to share experience with Vietnam in coping with climate change, drought, and saline intrusion. He said the US will create conditions for Vietnam to expand its market in the US. He said the US administration is waiting for the US Congress’s approval of the TPP agreement. He urged the two sides to remove more trade barriers between the two countries to further their comprehensive cooperation.
