Putin: Russia getting rid of US dollar as matter of national security
(VOVWORLD) - Sanctions are forcing Russia to find alternative settlement currencies to the US dollar to ensure the security of the country's economy, according to President Vladimir Putin.

At the Valdai Discussion Club meeting in Sochi Thursday, Mr. Putin said Russia is moving to the de-dollarization of the economy. It is doing so to ensure its security, not to undermine the dollar. Russia is constantly facing sanctions and is not given the opportunity to work in dollars, he added.
The alternative to the greenback could become a basket of national currencies, an instrument being developed by BRICS countries.
