Requiem, art performances tribute war invalids, martyrs

(VOVWORLD) -National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Saturday attended separate events commemorating 70 years of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27). The events in Hanoi and Quang Nam province honored war invalids, families of martyrs, and revolutionary contributors.

The same day, an art performance hosted by Voice of Vietnam spotlighted those who have rendered services to the nation and heroic mothers whose children died for national liberation and independence

“Songs in praise of soldiers and their merits are frequently aired on Voice of Vietnam programs. We are very proud of them,” said composer Doan Nguyen, a member of the organizing board.

HCM city TV station also hosted a TV link spanning Hang Duong cemetery in Con Dao island, the notorious Phu Quoc prison, and the Ben Duoc Martyrs’ Memorial in HCM city. Attending the programs were war veterans and political prisoners including former Vice President Truong My Hoa. Ms. Hoa, who was jailed for 11 years by the enemy and served part of her sentence on Con Dao, said:

“I always burn incense at Hang Duong cemetery for revolutionary prisoners whenever I visit Con Dao island. I promise myself to do whatever I can to deserve the sacrifice of my fallen comrades”.  

Requiem, art performances tribute war invalids, martyrs - ảnh 320,000 people attend a requiem in Quang Tri province, July 21-23.     

A 3-day grand requiem for those who sacrificed their lives for the nation ended on Sunday in Quang Tri province. 20,000 people attended the event which took place by the sacred Thach Han river. Quang Tri citadel and the Thach Han river witnessed one of the fiercest battles in 1972 during the American war.
