RoK Parliamentary speaker calls for dialogue with DPRK

(VOVWORLD) - South Korea's parliamentary speaker Chung Sye-kyun called on Tuesday for dialogue with North Korea to run in parallel with sanctions.

During a meeting with parliamentary leaders from 25 Asian and European countries in Seoul, Chung urged the world community to open talks with the North in the hope of resolving nuclear issue. He also reiterated the necessity to resume the six-party talks aimed at denuclearization on the Korean peninsula. The talks, involving the two Koreas, the US, China, Russia, and Japan, have stalled since 2008. Chung's remarks echoed those of new South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who has frequently stressed a need to engage in dialogue with North Korea.
