Russia vetoes UN resolution on Syria

(VOVworld) - Russia vetoed a UN resolution put forward by the UK, France, and the US on Wednesday that demanded that the Syrian government allow an investigation into the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhun town.This was the eighth veto by Russia on Syrian issues.

Syria’s UN Ambassador Bashar Ja’afari said Syria has sent letters to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) authorizing an investigation at Shayrat Airfield, recently attacked by US missiles, and Khan Sheikhun town.

The Russian Federation Council on Wednesday called on the parliaments of all nations to denounce the unlawful actions of the US against a sovereign country, the Syrian Arab Republic, and to support conflict settlement resolutions issued by the UN Security Council. Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said that Council’s statement will be forwarded to foreign parliaments and international inter-parliamentary bodies.
