Russian S-300 air defense missile battery deployed in Belarus

(VOVworld) – The Belarusian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that the Polotsk District-based 377th Guard Air Defense Missile Regiment had deployed a battery of Russian-supplied air defense missile system S-300. It’s part of an agreement signed by Moscow and Minsk on February 3, 2009, to establish a common air defense system.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry informed that with a view to further develop and improve a joint regional air defense system in the framework of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Russia, anti-aircraft missile system S-300 batteries were delivered to the air force and air defense force of Belarus, two of them for military unit in Polotsk.

Russian Defense Ministry announced to deploy 3 divisions to the western and southern areas bordering Ukraine, Belarus, Finland, Georgia, and Azerbaijan later this year. The information was revealed after US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said NATO would consider sending 4 battalions to its member countries sharing the border with Russia.
