Russia’s Putin taps Dmitry Medvedev for Prime Minister

(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday proposed that the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, consider the candidacy of Dmitry Medvedev for the post of Prime Minister, the Kremlin said in a statement on Monday.

The nominated Prime Minister proposed Vitaly Mutko, Olga Golodets, and Yuri Borisov for Deputy Prime Minister of Construction, Sports, and Defense. He proposed that Finance Minister Anton Siluanov retain his position while combining his current job with the role of new First Deputy Prime Minister.

The State Duma will respond to Putin’s proposal within 1 week. State Duma First Deputy Speaker Ivan Melnikov said the legislators may consider the proposal at a plenary meeting on Tuesday.
