Shang-ri La Dialogue 2018: Vietnam seeks defense ties with Australia, France, Japan

(VOVWORLD) - Defence Minister Ngo Xuan Lich on Saturday had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Australia, France, and Japan, on the sidelines of the Shang-ri La Dialogue 2018 in Singapore.

Mr. Lich and Australian Defence Minister Marise Payne applauded development in Vietnam-Australia relations, noting that defence cooperation has been in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed in 2010. Mr. Lich thanked the Australian Defence Ministry for providing language training for Vietnamese medical and engineer corps in peacekeeping activities of the UN.

Mr Lich and Japanese Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera agreed on future cooperation in delegation exchanges, recovery from war consequences, natural disasters response, and defence industry between Vietnam and Japan.

Meeting with French Defence Minister Florence Parly, Mr. Lich said Vietnam is always supportive of France’s efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region and cooperation with ASEAN. Both called for more cooperation opportunities in the fields of mutual interests.
