In his remarks at the opening ceremony on Wednesday, US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross insisted change is necessary given the more than 200 percent surge in Chinese exports to the US in the last 15 years, marking a trade deficit with China of 309 billion USD last year. He called for a fairer, more equitable, and reciprocal relationship. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation to resolve disputes.
