During talks with Minister Song on Monday, General Lich expressed support for a nuclear-free Korean peninsula and affirmed the importance Vietnam attaches to stable and long-term ties with South Korea. Minister Song said South Korea appreciates Vietnam’s position and central role in ASEAN and East Asia, adding that South Korea supports Vietnam’s stance in the East Sea issue and regional navigation and overflight freedom.

Both sides agreed to bolster bilateral defense cooperation in human resources training, national defense, searching for remains of servicemen missing in action, and addressing post-war bomb and mine consequences. The two ministers witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on logistics support in the United Nations peacekeeping mission, and natural disaster humanitarian aid.
