He said South Korea will resolutely respond to this action.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the launch of ballistic missiles is a severe threat to Japan. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said North Korea launched the missile at around 5.28 am (Japanese time). The projectile flew 800 km and landed in the Sea of Japan, outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

US President Donald Trump called for stricter punishment measures against North Korea. A statement from the White House said the US maintains its ironclad commitment to stand with its allies in the face of the serious threat posed by North Korea.
