South Korea to act as mediator ahead of Trump-Kim summit
(VOVWORLD) - An official at South Korea’s presidential Blue House has said that South Korea is seeking to act as a mediator to bridge the gap between the US and North Korea ahead of a planned summit.
President Donald Trump will host South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House next Tuesday, three weeks before his first meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore.
Nam Gwan-pyo, deputy director of the presidential National Security Office, said on Friday that the two leaders will discuss ways to guarantee a bright future for North Korea in return for its complete denuclearization.
The Ministry of Unification said the same day that North Korea refused to accept a list of South Korean journalists to be present at the scheduled closing of the Punggye Village nuclear test site next week. Last Saturday, North Korea said it would be allowing coverage of the test site’s closure by news outlets from five countries: South Korea, the US, China, the UK, and Russia.
