(VOVworld) - The Southern Folk Cake Festival 2017 opened on Thursday in Can Tho, continuing the region’s thousand-year tradition of folk cakes.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai said the annual event promotes local cultural values, honors the creativity of local artisans, and offers an opportunity for businesses and cake makers to boost their brands.

Folklorist Nhan Hung told VOV: “Folk cakes are part of the traditional folk culture of the southern region. If well preserved, it can become a tourist product to attract visitors and encourage them to stay longer and return again and again.”

The festival’s 250 booths showcase the traditional cakes and cake-making materials and techniques of southerners.
