Special announcement on President Tran Dai Quang’s passing

(VOVWORLD) - The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee  announced on Sunday that member of the Politburo and President of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang passed away at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62 after a serious illness.

Tran Dai Quang was born on October 12, 1956 in Ninh Binh province. His residence address is No 8, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum Street, Hanoi. He joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on July 26, 1980. Mr. Quang was a member of the 10th, 11th, and 12th Party Central Committee and the 11th and 12th Politburo. He was a deputy of the National Assembly in the 13th and 14th tenures and served as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam since April 2016.

During his lifetime, President Tran Dai Quang made great contributions the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and nation. He was honored with numerous Orders and Medals and a badge of 30-year party membership. His death is a great loss of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people.

In remembrance of the President, a National Funeral will be held. The funeral organizing board includes 37 members led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. A ceremony to pay tribute to the late President will take place from 7am on September 26 at the national funeral house 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. It will be followed by a memorial service from 7.30am on September 27 at the national funeral house. The burial ceremony will be held from 3.30 pm on the same day in his home village in Quang Thien commune, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.

 The tribute-paying and memorial ceremonies will take place at Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and at Kim Son district People’s Committee Hall  at the same time with those in Hanoi. The Vietnam Television (VTV) and the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) will broadcast these ceremonies live.

On national mourning days, September 26 and 27, all State offices and public facilities will fly the national flag at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be stopped.
