In his report on Tuesday, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said in the last five years, NA agencies have done a great volume of work, contributing to national development and defense. The NA adopted the 2013 Constitution, revised and released a number of major laws, fine-tuned the legal system on building a socialist state governed by law, consolidated the state apparatus, the market economic mechanism, and laws on ensuring human rights, fundamental rights and obligation of citizens, and people’s rights to freedom and democracy. He said that the National Assembly had approved several decisive resolutions on national socio-economic development: “Amidst economic difficulties, the NA released prompt resolutions to implement cautious and flexible monetary policies, ensure national finance security, maintain macro-economic stability, control inflation, restore economic growth, and ensure social security. Many NA resolutions promptly addressed difficulties concerning the management of hydro power plants, budget allocation for offshore fishing, defending national sovereignty over the sea and islands, and increasing wages for disadvantaged state workers”.

The National Assembly has improved its oversight activities. For the first time, the National Assembly collected votes of confidence on those elected or approved by the NA. Mr. Hung said: “Thanks to the NA’s oversight activities, many shortcomings and weakness in management of local administration in various levels have been addressed. They have also contributed to enhancing the public’s trust to the Party and State”.  

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered a report reviewing the government’s accomplishments over the past 5 years. The government and the Prime Minister have controlled inflation, stabilized the macro-economy, and ensured major balances of the economy to obtain high growth rate. Remarkable results have been recorded in culture and social development, administrative reform, creating a favorable business environment for individuals and enterprises.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the government has proposed to the Party and the National Assembly many important external and international integration policies, particularly the Vietnam Law of the Sea and the Politburo’s Resolution 22 on international integration.
“It’s important to have a creative mindset, prioritize the interests of the nation and people, focus on improving the market economy, build a state-governed by law, and generate momentum for rapid and sustainable development. It’s a must to uphold the principles of democracy and enhance unity. Amidst many difficulties, we have to guarantee social security and improve people’s living conditions. Other missions include improving people’s mastery right and placing people in the center of development.”
The National Assembly deputies listened to President Truong Tan Sang’s working report on his 2011-2016 term, reviewing legislative, executive, and judicial activities as well as national unity.The same day, National Assembly deputies heard end-of-term performance reports of the Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, the Chief Inspector General, and the Auditor General.
