Syria accuses rebels of preparing chemical attack in Idlib

(VOVWORLD) - The rebels of al-Qaida-linked groups and the so-called White Helmets are preparing to stage a chemical attack in the northwestern province of Idlib, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.

The rebels are planning to use chlorine gas in their anticipated attack in order "to justify US aggression against Syria."

Last April, the US and its allies launched airstrikes against Syria after accusing President Bashar al-Assad's government of using chemical weapons to attack civilians in Douma. Russia and Syria denied the accusation, saying it was a plot by the Western side to justify its interference in Syria.
