Syrian army repels ISIS near Iraq border

(VOVWORLD) - The Syrian army and Iranian-backed fighters on Thursday foiled an Islamic State attack near the Syria-Iraq border.

ISIS launched a major attack on a military base near Sad al-Waer. The attack was answered with intense fire, which forced the attackers to retreat after suffering huge losses.

The repulsed attack continues a string of victories by the Syrian army and allied Shiite fighters in Homs province.

A Lebanese Hezbollah force now controls most of the ISIS enclave on Syria’s side of its border with Lebanon, the force’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said.
