(VOVWORLD) - A Palestinian was killed and at least 170 were wounded by Israeli army fire Friday during the seventh weekly border protest of Gaza residents.

The number of dead people in the anti-Israel conflict has risen to 44. The protest is expected to culminate on May 15, when Palestinians will mark the 70th anniversary of the “Catastrophe”, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced when the new Israeli government was established in May 1948.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the EU have called for an independent investigation on the Gaza incident, which has been dismissed by Israel.
