(VOVworld) -  Thai media quoted Malaysian authorities on Tuesday as saying that Thai government negotiators and southern rebel groups are likely to meet in September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after they reached a consensus on what could be discussed.

At a meeting in April, the new Thai government’s chief negotiator rejected agreements reached at earlier meetings. Under those agreements, Islamic separatist groups demanded the government consider them members of the Patani Syura Consultative Council (Mara Patani), rather than as those holding different views from the government, as they have been called in preliminary documents. It was reported that Bangkok also rejected the rebels’ request for immunity for those attending peace talks.
