Thailand opens Royal Palace for mourners

(VOVworld) - The Royal Household Bureau said the Palace is open for domestic and foreign visitors to pay respects to the King Bhumibol within 15 days starting from October 15. Religious rites are held daily in the Phiman Rattaya pavilion, where the urn is placed, for a total of 100 days.

On the first day of opening the Palace, tens of thousands of people came to bid the last farewell to the respected King. All dressed in black and queued orderly.

On October 14, the urn of the King was moved from Sirirai hospital in Bangkok to Phiman Rattaya pavilion in the Royal Palace. The urn will be placed there for several months for mourning rituals. The Thai government declared the 1-year mourning period and festivals are banned in 30 days. His Majesty King Bhumibol died on October 13 at the age 88.
