(VOVworld) - The Supreme Court of Thailand accepted on Thursday a criminal case against former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra over a loss-ridden rice-subsidy scheme implemented by her government. According to an announcement released by the court, the first hearing is scheduled for May 19. If convicted for dereliction of duty, Yingluck could face ten years in jail. In January, the legislature voted to impeach the ex-PM for her role in the subsidy program, which incurred national budget losses and cost the country its place as the world's leading rice exporter. Following the accusation, she was banned from politics for five years. Yingluck has denied all the charges.
