Pham Quang Nghi, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, said the outstanding issue was the self-criticism reports of the Politburo and the Secretariat.  Approximately 230 opinions debated the responsibilities of collectives and individuals. "I was impressed at the session on self-criticism and criticism by the serious, democratic, and responsible manner of the Politburo and the Secretariat, the permanent and highest organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the highest administration of the nation and people," Nghi said.

Before presenting their self-criticism and criticism reports to the PCC 6th plenum, the Politburo and the Secretariat collected opinions from former leaders of the Party and State. Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, elaborated: "This is an important information channel. Attentive listening and an inquiring mind will help us better implement our assignments. The self-criticism and criticism drive of the Politburo and the Secretariat corrects the mistake of just seeing others’ weaknesses but not our own. Individuals in the Politburo and the Secretariat have developed self-criticism which sets a good example for their subordinates to follow."

Member of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Quang Binh province Party Committee Luong Ngoc Bich said this was an important plenum covering major issues of socio-economic development strategy, personnel development, and national defense and security. "Among the many important issues, I was impressed by the discussion on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training to meet the demands of the national modernization and industrialization process and international integration. The program has been thoroughly debated, as it is one of the three strategic breakthroughs in the socio-economic development plan," Binh said.

Issues discussed at the PCC 6th plenum will have a profound and lasting impact on Vietnam’s revolutionary development.
