An article named ‘Time to end the Cuba embargo’, written by Doug Bandow, makes some plausible arguments and concludes that it is time to remove the Cuba embargo which has lasted for nearly half a century. Bandow who is a senior scholar at the Cato Institute and former special assistant to US President Ronald Reagan, criticized the US government for following a hostile policy and pressuring the Cuban revolutionary government for decades. He said the policy is out of date because “Cuba has no capability to harm the US security, economic and defense interests”. The embargo is still in place today due to the political role of Florida, the US state closest to Cuba. Every US congressional candidate has to get the support of Cuban-Americans if they want to win in this state. Many of those Cuban-Americans harbor with ideological hatred, but the situation has been changing with a generation of Cuban-Americans who are no longer obsessed with the past. The author says Washington needs to lift the embargo and stop following a failed policy.
