TPP nations inch closer to a deal

(VOVWORLD) - The 11 nations remaining in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have moved closer to a new free trade deal after the United States’ withdrawal, Japan’s chief TPP negotiator Kazuyoshi Umemoto announced on Friday.

Umemoto said TPP negotiators made significant progress after a 2-day meeting in Tokyo. They will meet again in Japan next month and aim to reach a broad agreement in November at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam. The TPP, which was signed last year, involves Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the US, and Vietnam.
