UK, Japan agree to accelerate sanctions against North Korea

(VOVWORLD) - UK Prime Minister Theresa May said on Thursday that the UK and Japan will accelerate sanctions against North Korea for its nuclear programs following this week’s missile launch over Japanese territory.

May, on her official visit to Japan, called North Korea’s missile launch a violation of UN resolutions. The UK, Japan, and other countries have agreed to increase pressure on North Korea, May said.

The same day, Britain summoned the North Korean ambassador to the foreign ministry to condemn its ballistic missile launch. Mark Field, Britain's Minister for Asia and the Pacific, said in a statement that North Korea's reckless actions violate multiple UN Security Council resolutions and threaten international security. The Spanish Foreign Ministry also summoned the North Korean ambassador to make clear Spain's condemnation of North Korea's missile launches and nuclear weapon tests and to demand a reduction in North Korean diplomats in Madrid.
