Ukraine is ready for the presidential elections

(VOVworld) –People across Ukraine will cast their ballot on Sunday for an early presidential election to solve the prolonged political crisis over the past six months. Polling stations will open at 8 am local time and around 36 million voters will cast their ballots to choose their country’s leader, according to Ukrainian Central Electoral Commission. Analysts said that, although there are 22 candidates running for the post, this seems to be a competition between Peter Poroshenko of Udar Party, and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. In case no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote, the two candidates with highest number of votes will enter the second round scheduled for June 15th.

Recent pubic surveys show that Poroshenko is receiving huge support from voters and is likely to win in the first round of elections. Voters hope that Poroshenko, who used to be Foreign Minister and Minister of Finance under President Yanukovich’s administration, will win. Poroshenko is expected to connect the east and west of Ukraine as he pledged to soon address the country’s political crisis with Russia during his electoral campaign.
