(VOVworld) - UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura opened a new round of Syria peace talks in Geneva on Wednesday, meeting with members of the main opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC).

The Syrian government delegation is expected to arrive on Thursday or Friday after the parliamentary elections in Syria have been completed.

The new round of talks is scheduled for 10 days. Mistura said participants will focus on political transition and constitutional principles. The Syrian government said Monday it’s ready for unconditional peace talks. Representatives from the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) said they won’t oppose direct talks with the government.
