Addressing the ceremony, UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft said a major priority of the session is to help all countries adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which will be approved next week. In order to achieve the agenda, the UN General Assembly is conducting an Action Plan with 4 main focuses: accelerating the sustainable development goals’ implementation, promoting the role of the UN in peace and security issues, ensuring human rights, especially for victims of conflicts and epidemics, and advocating UN reforms. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the UN already has mechanisms to help all countries achieve the agenda’s goals.
