UN urges rapid Libya handover

(VOVworld) – On Wednesday the UN Envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, urged a rapid, complete handover of power to a unity government that arrived in Tripoli a week ago, and warned that the fragile peace in the city may not hold if the new government is unable to deliver. Kobler also called on Libya's internationally-recognized eastern parliament to hold a long-sought vote on whether to approve the UN-backed Government of National Accord, warning that the parliament risked being sidelined if it failed to do so.

Khalifa Ghwell, head of the government currently controlling Tripoli, asked his ministers not to leave their offices. Ghwell’s call went against his government’s announcement a day earlier, backed by several ministers, that it was willing to hand over power.
