Youssouf Abdel-Jelil, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, said that digital technology has greatly changed the life and opportunities of the younger generation.

He said when digital technology is used properly, it can be a life-changing tool for marginalised children, particularly disabled and ethnic children, and children living in disadvantaged areas.

He said that online protection does not necessarily mean controlling children’s internet use. It just means protecting their safety when using the internet, adding that the Government needs to work closely with the private sector to safeguard children, especially the disadvantaged.

Dao Hong Lan, Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids, and Social Affairs, called on relevant organizations and agencies to work together to create a safer internet environment for children.

She underscored the necessity of equipping children with the necessary skills to access the internet safely and said children should be a fundamental concern when building digital policies.
