The United Nation General Assembly yesterday passed a resolution called “The need to stop US economic, trade and financial embargo against Cuba” condemning US embargo in the last 5 decades. Among 193 members, there are 188 yes and 3 noes including the US, Israel and Palau. The resolution calls on the nations who have been imposing sanctions against Cuba to take necessary steps to cancel or invalidate their sanctions as soon as possible. The UN General Assembly re-affirmed the principles of equality, non-intervention in each other’s internal affairs, trade and international maritime freedom. Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez Parilla has denounced US embargo against Cuba, saying that this is genocidal act according to the 1948 anti-genocide Geneva Convention. Minister Parilla described US embargo as the systematic and obvious violence of human rights. In late September, the Cuban government said US trade and financial sanctions against Cuba from 1962 has been causing uncountable damage to the society especially in term of health care and food. The embargo is estimated to cost the Cuban economy 1trillion USD.
