US has no plans to give Iran access to US financial system

(VOVworld) - "The administration has not been and is not planning to grant Iran access to the US financial system," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Monday. Last week President Barack Obama said the US has no plans to permit the use of its financial system for dollar-denominated transactions with Iran; however, foreign companies could work with Tehran through European banks.

The US has lifted several economic sanctions against Iran after Iran and the P5+1 signed a nuclear deal. But it retains restrictions on businesses who want to trade with Iranian partners due to the accusation that Iran supports terrorism.

In March the US blacklisted 2 individuals and 2 entities for backing Iran’s ballistic missile program.
