The meeting in Tokyo came amid expectations North Korea may conduct a 6th nuclear test or launch ballistic missiles on the 85th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean People’s Army on Tuesday.

On Monday, the US Defense Department said several top-ranking senators will go to a Wednesday meeting at the White House to hear secret reports on North Korea.

South Korean military officials said the US guided-missile submarine USS Michigan will take part in joint exercises with the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson this weekend, sending a strong warning to North Korea.
