US President: Trade deal with China during G20 summit possible

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that a trade deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping is possible this weekend on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan but the White House is open to enforcing tougher measures.

President Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network that it’s absolutely possible that the US and China will make a good deal, adding that China’s economy is stalled and China wants to make a deal.

President Trump said he is prepared to impose US tariffs on virtually all remaining Chinese imports if the two countries continue to disagree, which means he is in the position to impose tariffs on more than 320 billion USD worth of Chinese goods. But he added that he could consider lowering the duty to 10% from the proposed 25%.
