Most of the arrested were charged with unlawful crowding and obstruction to the police force. According to US officials, around 260 groups of protestors gathered at the US Capitol in recent days. The protesters, chanting "money out, people in" among other slogans, denounced laws making it more difficult to vote and urged the US Congress to pass legislation which would ensure all Americans have a fair voice in the poll. Many protested the Supreme Court's 2010 ruling in the Citizens United case, which is believed to have opened the door for the rise of newer super political action committees (PACs). Under the ruling, the super PACs can raise unlimited amounts from virtually any source and contributed to corporate influence in campaigns.

Earlier, Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders strongly criticized billions of USD from the US’s richest people have been poured in the presidential election campaigns. He said PACs are pouring more and more money and have great influence on campaigns.
