A Spanish Defense Ministry source said the US authorities have indeed asked Spain to use their bases in the country as a transit point for logistics and engineers building up field hospitals in Liberia and Sierra Leone. A decision is due to be announced when Spanish Defense Minister Pedro Morenes meets US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in Washington. However, Spain was set to agree to the request with two conditions in which none of the planes will transport patients or people suspected to have contracted Ebola and Spain will have a right to inspect the planes and passengers.

Madrid's Barajas international airport activated emergency measures after a passenger on an Air France flight from Lagos via Paris was suspected of possibly having Ebola.
