US State Secretary’s Vietnam visit to forge closer ties

(VOVWORLD) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will begin his 2-day official visit to Vietnam on Saturday at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh. This will be Mr. Pompeo’s first Vietnam visit as State Secretary and the first leg of his Southeast Asian tour.

The Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership has developed with bilateral trade reaching 51 billion USD. Deputy spokesperson of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ngo Toan Thang said: “The visit aims to continue developing the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership in a practical and effective manner, especially in politics, economics, trade, investment, defense, security, and remedy of war. Both sides will also discuss regional and global issues of mutual concerns.”

State Secretary Pompeo is scheduled to hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Minh and pay courtesy calls on high ranking leaders of Vietnam.
