US to join naval exercises with ASEAN in 2019
(VOVWORLD) - US Indo-Pacific Navy Commander Admiral Philip Davidson on Thursday reiterated the US commitment to the region, saying it will conduct exercises with the naval forces of ASEAN countries this year.

Davidson said the US is aware of the increase in illegal military activities in the East Sea. He said law-based international response to these activities is needed to ensure the freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.
Admiral Davidson said the US and ASEAN share respect for international law and resolve disputes by peaceful means. He called for both sides to strengthen capability of activity coordinating and information sharing, saying that the US navy will continue coordinating with partner countries in addressing marine security challenges.
