US urged to ease sanctions on North Korea

(VOVWORLD) - In addition to a formal end-of-war declaration, the US needs to consider a partial lifting of its sanctions on North Korea to get North Korea to permanently close its Yongbyon nuclear facilities, a high-ranking South Korean official said Wednesday.

Moon Chung-in, a special presidential adviser for unification, diplomacy, and national security, applauded US President Donald Trump’s efforts to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula and said the Panmunjom truce village would be ideal for a second US-North Korea summit.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said Wednesday that South Korea is considering lifting its unilateral sanctions against North Korea amid reconciliation efforts after a successful inter-Korea meeting.
