Its Chief Asia Economist Chang Su said that last month’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) showed most countries in Asia recovering but at different rates.

China's official PMI showed that its economic growth accelerated, backed by external demand. Some economies like Australia have recovered steadily since their lockdown and social distancing were loosened. Others, particularly Japan, are still severely affected.

The PMI of Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (China) improved slightly, but all remained below 50, the dividing line between contraction and expansion. Vietnam's PMI was 51.1.
