Vietnam and Thailand hold the 2nd Joint Committee Meeting on bilateral cooperation

(VOVworld) - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and his Thai counterpart Thanasak Patimapragorn have chaired the 2nd session of the Joint Committee on bilateral cooperation. Both agreed to deepen bilateral strategic partnership and hold the 3rd joint cabinet meeting during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Thailand schedule for the first half of this year. They agreed to promote the consultative discussion on national defense and negotiate for an early signing of a extradition treaty. Both aimed to generate 15 billion dollars of two way trade revenue by 2020 and increase total Thai investment capital in Vietnam by five times.

They will cooperate in the building of the ASEAN community late this year while Thailand, as a coordinating country in ASEAN China dialogue, will actively cooperate with related parties on practical negotiation for a Code of Conducts for Parties in the East Sea. They agreed on mutual support for UN non permanent security membership for Thailand (2017 – 2018) and Vietnam (2020 – 2021). They will share information on the sustainable management of water resource, especially along the Mekong River, through cooperation in related mechanism, including the Mekong MRC.
