Vietnam Book Day promotes reading culture

(VOVworld) – Various activities are underway across the country to observe Vietnam Book Day (April 21st). A ceremony to announce the Prime Minister’s decision to observe the day will be held at Hanoi’s Ly Thai To Square on April 19th.

In Hanoi, the program will include the organization of a book street, exchanges, drawing contests and the collection of books for poor children. Book exhibitions and movements to encourage reading and build inviting school libraries will be held at various localities. At a press briefing in Hanoi on Friday, Chu Van Hoa, Head of the Publishing Department and Head of the event’s Organizing Board, said Vietnam Book Day honors the reading culture and habit: "We aim to encourage people’s book-reading habits, considering it as the momentum for social development. In order to reach that target, it is necessary to develop the reading habit in the community. This day should be observed and well organized nationwide to show the Vietnam’s traditional fondness for learning and moving forward".
