Ho Chi Minh city’s representative made the statement during Tuesday’s ceremony marking 45 years of Vietnam-Canada diplomatic relations.

Bilateral cooperation in politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, and education have grown since the two nations upgraded their relationship into a strategic partnership last year. Vietnam is Canada’s biggest trade partner within ASEAN. Canada is the 21st largest investor in Ho Chi Minh city, with 71 projects worth more than 110 million USD.

Kyle Nunas, Canadian Consul General in HCM City, said since 1990, Canada has provided aid to Vietnam worth 1.5 billion USD, pegged for poverty reduction and sustainable development. He said he hopes the 14,000 Vietnamese living in Canada will deepen ties and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.
